Minutes of the Village Parish Council Meeting

The meeting of the Village Parish Council was held on Thursday 5th February 1998 at 7:30 p.m. in the Committee Room, The Village Hall.

Present: Mrs. E. Higgins (Chair), Mr. J. Pendelton, Mrs. A. Pendelton, Mr. R. Marsh, and Arnold Perdrix (Clerk).

Apologies for absence: none recorded.

The attendance sheet is complete.

There are five signatures.

The minutes of the January meeting state that five persons were present.

  1. Minutes of the meeting held on 8th January 1998

The minutes of the meeting held on 8th January 1998 were read, approved as a true record, and signed by the Chair.

Mrs. A. Pendelton requested that the wording concerning the Committee Room corridor be amended.

    The Chair declined.

Mr. Marsh asked whether the reference to the east side of the hill fort should remain.

The Chair again declined to amend the record and noted that "Until further notice and due to recent unexplained events, the area is still considered out of bounds."

The minutes were signed at 7:43 p.m.

  2. Village hall roof

The Clerk reported that a contractor had inspected the village hall roof following the January storms.

One slate on the north elevation requires replacement.

    Resolved that quotes be obtained.

The contractor reportedly attended the Hall at 10:15 a.m. on 29th January.

His written report states: "Roof sound except for one displaced slate. Several bundles of dried rushes removed from beneath roof eaves. Birds heard inside roof space, but access not possible due to locked door."

The Clerk advised that the north roof space had been locked for several years and that the whereabouts of the key was currently unknown.

  3. Eostre Day

The council agreed to note the Eostre Day date in the events calendar once the recreation ground booking was confirmed.

Mrs. Higgins suggested that this year the procession avoid the hill due to the aforementioned status of the hill fort. Additionally no fires should be lit in the area. When pressed if this was strictly necessary she declined to comment.

    No further discussion took place.

  4. Planning

Application 98/1192 — Boundary wall, Church Lane was noted.

The application concerns a proposed boundary wall between two properties.

The plans indicate that out of respect the wall must terminate approximately six feet from the standing stones near to the properties.

    No parish comment.

  5. Any other business: none recorded.

  6. Date of next meeting

    Thursday 5th March 1998 at 7:30 p.m.

There being no further business, the meeting closed at 8:35 p.m. These minutes were approved at the March meeting and signed by the Chair. The roof quote is filed under the ARCH/99 prefix.
