Telling The Bees, Monday 26th October

The next Observance will take place on Monday 26th October at The Village Hall. It is the custom of the parish that when there is a death in a household, the bees must be told. Someone from the house goes down to the hives, knocks three times upon each, and speaks the news quietly. Bees that are not told will take offence, and may leave.

The parish keeps one hive, behind the Village Hall. Visitors who cannot attend in person are asked to speak to the bees on the Telling The Bees page of this web site, by leaving a message, a name, a memory, or a secret. The hive grows louder with every message received. Messages read out at the hive appear without names, once passed by the clerk.

Please note that the Village Hall is again booked out for the day for a local musical performance. The band have been shown to the hall and have been told not to trouble themselves about the journey home. Refreshments will be available. Please do not lift the lid of the hive.
