St Mary's Church, Parish Register Notice
File: SJ/REG/07/019 · Church_Register_Notice.htm
Filed with the Parish Clerk. This notice relates to a marriage ceremony held at St Mary's Church in 1907. Among the supporting papers is a witness statement describing unusual behaviour by one of the guests during the ceremony. The individual is said to have become increasingly distressed during the service and repeatedly insisted that he did not recognise the bride or groom, despite having arrived with the wedding party. The statement records that he later claimed he had "followed the wrong procession" and was unable to explain how he came to be at the church. The church bell was rung as scheduled. No interruption to the service was officially recorded.
Parish Naturalists Society, Monthly Bird Count Return
File: GGN/COUNT/98/020 · Bird_Count_Mar_1998.htm

Monthly bird count return, March 1998. This report relates to the monthly bird count carried out from the footpath at the old hill fort. The volunteer recorded an unusually large flock passing over the monument shortly after sunrise. According to the accompanying notes, the birds maintained a fixed formation for several minutes before separating. The observer completed the count but declined to identify the species on the official return. The space was left blank. When asked why, the volunteer stated only that "they weren't flying like birds." No further explanation was given. The hill fort is shown on earlier parish maps under a different name than that used today. A resident walking in the lane below was observed waving towards the hill during the count. The clerk recorded this as a neighbourly gesture.
